Tongli has a history of more than 1000 years since it was founded in Song Dynasty. Tongli's name, easy to remember and sound. In fact, Tongli had the name "rich soil", the early Tang Dynasty because of its name is too extravagant, changed to copper. The Song Dynasty will be the old name "rich soil" two words overlapping, up the point, cross-sectional, disassembled as "Tongli", in use until now. According to the records of Tongli Annals of Jiaqing Dynasty, Tongli has been an important town in Wuzhong since Song, Yuan and Ming Dynasties. Tongli was listed as one of the national Taihu Lake Scenic spots in 1980, and was listed as a provincial cultural relics protection unit in 1982. In 1992, it was listed as a provincial cultural relics town, and the famous scenic spot "Tuisi Garden" was listed as a World cultural Heritage by UNESCO, and was rated as a national 5A tourist attraction by the National Tourism Administration in 2010.
